The plot, the action, everything is swallowed up by the huge amount of romance that goes on between Emrys and Richard. And your audience teenage girls needs to relate to your protagonist. Throughout the book, they have zero chemistry, other than Emrys stating over and over how much Richard means to her. It was set in the present but not bogged down by contemporary details, which allowed that magical feel of the book to remain at the focus.
